Helmets from Normandy, and other Norse Occupied Lands
12 guage bowl cut and RIVETED back together so that is it
oval
in shape instead of round. Most people's heads are
oval
instead
of round!
Pretty. Upgradeable. Ready to fill in the cheeks with
chain
mail or solid steel if you prefer.
With spangens...these are brass spangens, but steel is more
period,
and in my opinion, better looking. (You would need steel spangens
if
you
plan to upgrade this to battle ready.)
I find that this process still allows a
good
half to 3/4 inch of blue foam padding at the sides. So some
people
prefer this helm over the heavier "ten series" helms on page four.
This
helm is heavy enough to make into a real battle helm.
Sometimes people like splints on the back instead of a big old
curtain
plate. No difference in price...just make sure you let me
know!
Splints look more period.

#9-d
....... Decorative Helm for all you Minnesota Viking fans out
there!!!
An inch wide strip was cut out of this bowl, and riveted on to
hold
the halves together. . The holes on the side are for the
bolo
string...a
fancy name for chin strap. This one flares out a bit more
than
usual,
normally the sides are tucked in just a little tighter.

#9-f Helmet Blanks
12 gauge or greater
....... Decorative Helm made from a standard South Tower spinning
(10d
on page 3)
I cut a half inch out of the bowl and weld them. such
a
small change results in a more oval, less bowl like shape.
The one in the foreground is what they look like from the
front,
and the one in the back is what they look like from the side.
After grinding, sculpting, cursing and
polishing,
they end up looking kind of nice....
You can see a bit of a cut out for the eyes in the rear most
helmet...I
found that is normally required so that the bowl does not come
down
over
the eyes. This is the basic material from which many other
helms
are made, so I am happy to sell them to you, to make into your own
dream
helm.

#9-g. Norman Nasal
Helmet
This is your basic Norman Helmet. There are many variations
I
can do with this helmet. For instance, I can put that nasal
on
the
basic spinning as shown, or on the narrower cut and welded
spinning
illustrated
above. This particular nasal looks best in brass, but I can
make
the nasal in steel for about a 5 dollar savings...(better in
brass...nudge

South Tower "Arthur" Helm.
A little bit of styling, a little bit of whimsy. My
version
of this helm is more "Norman" or even "East Anglian" than
"Arthurian",
but hey, its not screamingly out of period! I don't have any
little
bronze boars...you find one, I'll mount it on top for you!
which
of
course has been interpreted as this:

Of course, I can make with the spangens as well....they would pretty good too! I have some spangens (those vertical bars) shown on the next page. This particular model is just for inexpensive "light" wear, good for archers, marshals, and referees.

#10-a
....... Decorative Helm made from spun top
A
nice simple design, very plain. Very economical, and
especially
useful
to dress supporting actors, archers, and marshals.
(Not for combat) Sanded 12 gauge spun top with very simple visor....
