The Barrymore Armour
Below is the original
And yes, it was supposed to fit the actor a bit wonky
It was, after all, a screen test in armour which did not fit him
and Mr. Barrymore preferred to look a little bit
monsterous since his character was a little bit
monsterous as well
http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/03/08/christopher-plummers-barrymore-to-hit-big-screen/
In the late winter of 2011, I created the above
armour for Mr. Plummer, who was playing John Barrymore who was
playing Richard III for the film of that name.
That picture is of Barrymore.
The armour I made was painted white here in my shop, then
sent to Stratford to be painted. Below is what I made before
the magicians in Stratford got ahold of it
A peak into the back room, so to speak.

(I am really proud of this armour. In the
above picture it is all "primer paint white". That explains
the storm trooper look!)
(I am dying to show you what it looked like when
Mr. Plummer was actually IN it and performing,
however, I don't have permission to show his face on this, a
commercial site.
Please understand...his face is his life, and it is not fair to
just throw it out there just to show off MY work.)
But...that being said. Here is a little sample...it will have to
do for now. Compare to the above...
Yes, its the same armour! Just painted!

The roped edges come out looking really
nice.

14-a-3 Vambrace
click
here
for a closeup view of installed vambrace.
Note that these are the ultra stripped down, super simple
vambrace with no hinges,
no straps, nothing that can break.
Excellent field repairability.
They are supposed to be a bit short so that the gauntlet
can cover the wrist.
One size fits most...if you are particularly skinny or
robust, well, let me know.
They are normally made big enough to fit over a padded sleeve.

With Hinges of any type...specify, side opening, clamshell, or
whatever.
A common hinge method is the clamshell vambrace (not shown) that
has hinge rivets up near the elbow, and opens at the wrist.
Very robust.
Other types of hinges would be cabinet hinges, exposed hinges, and
a host of other decorative items such as the unusual one pictured
above.
Common ways to keep them closed would include your
choice of laces or straps.
14-a4 hinged
vambraces....each...$90.00 CAN
(roping will be extra.)

Other Vambraces
Sometimes people like to wear JUST the vambraces. Some
decorative ones we have made in the past would include the
ones pictured below. Click on the images to see them in
their true embiggened glory
This kind of fancy work can only be done on 18 gauge steel
It is called "repousse" and is obviously labour
intensive.
The Cobra vambrace takes a good $45.00 each plus about 50 to
90 dollars for the chiseling, depending upon the
subject.
